Mission Statement

The New York Cruisers Athletic Association provides opportunities for many youths to make positive contributions to their community through participation and leadership in public activities, athletic competitions and cultural events. The NY Cruisers are actively involved in the Asian community and culture, which serves to promote diversity through team work and sportsmanship.

History - Past and Present

Founded in the 1982 by Robert Lee and a few of his friends from the Chinatown community, the NY Cruisers were formed as a team for adults interested in the game of basketball.  About a decade later, a younger group developed and grew into many branches of teams, which offered local youth an opportunity to be involved in recreational activities.  Shortly thereafter, the NY Cruisers started to expand their play by going outside of the community and began competing in various cities, such as Boston, Philadelphia, and Montreal.  The team grew dramatically over the years and has attracted many young people from various neighborhoods throughout the tri-state area.

Today the New York Cruisers Athletic Association consists of hundreds of young people ranging from ages 13 to 50.  Without moving too far beyond the basketball floor, the NY Cruisers are now contributing significantly to their immediate Asian community.  The NY Cruisers Volunteer Committee is composed of many young people, who go out to the community to provide services to those in need or render assistance to organizations for special events in Chinatown and lower Manhattan.

New York Cruisers Basketball

Over the past decade, the New York Cruisers Athletic Association has developed a competitive and accomplished basketball program, which meets the individual needs for players of all ages. It is our goal to provide an opportunity for players to compete at a level, which commensurate with their individual skill level, while simultaneously learning the intricacies of the game. Whether you have played basketball in high school, AAU/college program, a recreational or CYO league, or even fresh off the playground, the Cruisers may provide you with an opportunity to participate in one of our exciting and satisfying programs. Our teams play in local leagues and tournaments, as well as in other cities across the county, competing against other competitive organizations and clubs. It is an experience that goes beyond the competitive state by which we are drawn together by the commonalities of the sport. It is this image, as much as the competition and the camaraderie that drives our program to achieve such a high level of performance.
